It is essential to have equality in a nation. All American citizens have the right to equal opportunity, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Your skin color or religion does not dictate your future. But can we pursue equality in human rights if some individuals and organizations hold a different point of view? It is difficult to succeed in our commitment to retain equality in America, meaning it will never be achieved. Even though equal rights were passed in 1964, this does not mean humanity has caught up with the laws. Police brutality is one of the major issues that still exist in today's society. Many believe that race is the main reason for unjust actions given by police officers. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote: “I doubt that you would have so warmly commended the police force if you had seen its dogs sinking their teeth into unarmed, nonviolent Negroes”, in his “Letter From a Birmingham Jail”. We may get close to that goal, but society will never be perfectly unbiased and equal among all people. Whether we notice it or not, bias is a part of many of our daily lives. Even if laws are passed to maintain and provide equal rights to each individual, it would be difficult to stop the tendency of having bias thoughts. Because some agree that inequalities are necessary and beneficial for a society, unjust actions will retain among many communities.
