We live in an era where equal-rights are an ever-going issue. In order to ensure equality, we have to be leaders and be an example for others. If certain individuals are not privileged to equal rights because of their skin color or gender, then should do we really have equality for ourselves? The definition of equality states: “the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities,” meaning you cannot have equality for yourself if you truly believe that a certain individual is inferior to you. The millennial generation is a part-two generation; we fight for the issues that were passed down. Millennials and other activists have made it their job to bring awareness to police brutality and the fact that racism still lives in our country. Now, during the Civil Rights Movement majority of the supporters were African Americans and maybe a small group of Caucasians. The difference between then and now is the fact that African Americans are not the only ones standing up and protesting, now other races are supporting and fighting the on-going issue. People are starting to realize that there is no security or protection for anyone when a certain race is being killed and left out of opportunities because of their skin color. The quote “we will never have true civilization until we have learned to recognize the rights of others”, told by Will Rogers, informs us that we can never be at peace unless everyone is given the rights they deserve. Different races are starting to stand up and realize that our government is not recognizing that racism is still alive and are dismissing the victims that have died by the hands of racism. Forms of petitions, protests, and even hashtags are what this generation does to inform the government about important issues. People are starting to standing up for what is right, regardless if they are being threatened or
