Friends. What would we do without them? They are basically people who you care about and care about you. Practically family. The novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck displays two men who have a very special bond of friendship experience the obstacles and challenges of trying to accomplish their dream which is to, according to Lennie, “‘Live off the fatta the lan’’” (Steinbeck 14), and have Lennie tend the rabbits . The novella is about the strong bond of friendship and reveals that one must help a friend through hard times and never give up on them no matter what. The author shows this theme through their characters’ actions, dialogue and interactions with others.
Steinbeck shows the importance of the strong bond of friendship through the characters’ actions and interactions with others. As taken from Curley’s father, the boss, “‘Well, I never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy’” (Steinbeck 22). This reveals how the strong bond of friendship is important because the boss states that he has never seen anyone really travel with another person and team up such as with George and Lennie. It is so rare for men to stick together and travel everywhere because usually they come in alone which explains the strong bond of friendship through George and Lennie.
