Our Generation is unlike any other that came before it. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? It seems that every generation in existence has formed a sort of rejection of the previous, as the latest incarnation is altered in some way to combat the wills of parents and authority figures. Going back to the 60’s we saw this in a surge of Liberal ideals and an adoption of an open minded attitude that was formed from resentment to the Vietnam War, and strayed from the conservative mindset of the 40’s and 50’s. The spearheads of these movements were people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks who stood for the rights of African-Americans and were also against the Draft that had claimed many to serve in the Armed Forces. A lot of this stems from a lack of respect for Guns. We see them splashed over television and movies and lose respect for what they are. We have lost touch with why we have them and how to treat them. Many High School students have never seen a gun up close, much less held one or fired one. Guns are this dangerous object that is only a tool of destruction of life and nothing more, and by that logic it should be eradicated.We have grown into an indoctrinated fear of guns because we do not understand them. Any who do understand this are branded unequivocally as gun nuts or NRA loving Republicans whose opinions don’t matter. Shouldn’t all opinions matter? But I will not be pigeonholed by the voices of those leaders of my Age group. And I will maintain the belief that the Second Amendment ensures our ability to keep all our other Amendments. I believe if we had more leaders in this country, from this generation, that spoke what I have, we would have a large number that would come back and counter this Anti-Gun Lobby. With all due respect I believe that what these student leaders are saying is wrong and unfounded, and the more that realize this, the faster the U.S. will recover from this mentally weakened
