As we’ve created a nation our patriotic stance shows how we need to protect not only our country but the American people. Throughout history we have developed laws and regulations to keep society away from harm. American essayist and social critic H.L. Mencken once wrote “The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” This shows how we must value safety within society. The average American prefers safety to keep society from anarchy.
