Brett Daniel! Hearing these two words come out of either one of my parent's mouth meant I did something wrong that upset my parents. Receiving discipline from my parents, mainly my dad, would usually come in forms of yelling at me, taking toys away from me, and making me stay at home for a weekend. On the other hand, like when I dented the brand new stainless steel Kohler fridge with a toy car, I, once or twice, received a spanking and learned my lesson for good. Spanking, the act of hitting with an open hand on the face or butt, is a form of punishment and discipline that works and fixes the child’s behavior. Many parents and guardians think that spanking may cause a pessimistic outcome in the future with the kids’ behavior and emotions. With hitting-like behavior and straining-like emotion changes in the child of the spanking, the relationship is sometimes thought to be faded or distorted by the spankings. Along with relationships being faded or distorted, the kids may not improve their behavior. Melinda Moyer, talking about spanking in “What Science Says-and Doesn’t-About Spanking”, concluded “Studies continue to find that spanking predicts negative behavior changes along with the absence of studies showing improvement in kids’ behavior.” Melinda Moyer is stating that the spankings on children have no effect on children in any positive way.
