On February 23, 1861, Texas approved a referendum call for secession from the United States of America. Just two months later the civil war broke out Texas was in the middle of it all. The people of Texas fought in the war, losing many important people, but there are reasons why they fought. Texans fought in the civil war because they wanted to preserve slavery, The people loved their state so they fought to protect it, and they also fought for states rights which were very important to them.

One of the reasons Texans fought in the civil war was because Texans loved their state and they wanted to keep it the way it was and protect it.(DOC-D) A person named Rabb was with a famous cavalry unit called the Texas Rangers. Rabb was someone who favored being in Texas and was fighting for it too. But he was mainly fighting to preserve slavery because he owned slaves himself.
