The Importance Of Trust In Ender's Game

All the time, people in society gain and lose trust with one another. The same thing is shown within the novel “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card. In the story, Ender Wiggin is trained by Colonel Graff. Throughout preparing Ender to be the best fighter possible, they gain trust for each other Therefore, since Ender has so much trust with Graff, he can easily be tricked into whatever Graff has planned, leading them to break the trust. This causes Ender to act the way he does in the war. The building and breaking of trust in Ender and Colonel Graff's relationship prove the manipulation to achieve greatness. Ender finds himself trusting Colonel Graff too quickly, which leads to consequences in the friendship. Ender has no one to rely on, not getting along with any of the other soldiers at Battle School. Ender feels his relationship with Graff is powerful, having a lot of trust in him. Graff is convinced to create the best soldier possible, choosing to focus on Ender. Ender has just won the game, however, he killed his own people too. Colonel Graff is proud with Ender for the win, to Enders astonishment. Card wrote, “Colonel Graff detached himself from the others and came to Ender. Tears streamed down his face, but he was smiling. He bent over, reached out his arms, and to Ender’s surprise he embraced him, held him tightly, and whispered, ‘Thank you, thank you, Ender. Thank God for you, Ender’” (207). Here is showed the true relationship between Ender and Graff. Graff is so excited Ender has won, finally showing his emotions towards him. Ender has gotten where Graff has wanted him this entire time. A strong leader who will defeat the buggers and who has been established as Ender Wiggin.
