The 22 minute video is explained by Jazz player, Billy Taylor and how it eventually become known in America. In the video, it was revealed that Jazz started out during the age of slavery. Black slaves decided to use music as a means of communication. This method would also keep them called as they were force to do work. As time went on, it was later formed during the rag times, also known as the late 1910s, early 1920s. The music was mostly caught on in New Orleans. Since there were, and still are, black people who live in New Orleans, they would often use music in their lives. Although, this was a happier time in American history and they were free. Much of the music was created onboard steamboats that would take people all the way to the city. The music would turn into the blues, creating songs that made people famous like Lionel Jefferson and Betsy Smith. …show more content…

Jazz would take shape during the 1920s and 30s and it has created some of the best known jazz players like, Fletcher Hamilton, Betty Goodman, and Earl Hines. They would be played on live shows or even on the radio. They would later be played on the jukebox that would play the hits at the time. Instruments that were used the trumpets, piano, drums, and many more. Throughout the video, Taylor would play an example of jazz music and given an example on the instruments that were used to play the music. He is a good example of someone who knows the music well to show an audience learning about the
