Koon case is historical where the case involved the infamous videotaped beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers. In 1991, Koon, Powell and three other officers were in a high-speed chase pursuit after King. The chase ended with force being used to subdue King that was caught on tape. In 1993, the four officers were tried in federal court and Koon and Powell were convicted and sentenced to 30 months in prison for violating King’s constitutional rights (Johnson, 1998).
