Many people find it difficult to define social policy. Some think it is just about doing good for people when really; social policy involves various aspects of social relations that is necessary to promote and maintain society’s wellbeing. Part of social policy is providing us a better understanding of the little things that influences and impacts our daily lives. In my opinion, social policy is what gives our society a structure. It maintains the sound relationship between us and the people around us. From what I learned through my previous classes, sociocultural competence encompasses few key components, which include, our cultural self-awareness, recognizing our cultural differences, and our attitude towards these differences. Being socio culturally competent means that we know each culture are unique, we acknowledge that uniqueness and embrace it with open arms. Only then we can communicate and effectively be a part of the society that surrounds us. A socio culturally competent individual does not only recognize the difference of another culture, but also sees and acknowledges his or her own. I believe that is the most vital in being socio culturally competent. This is a very crucial aspect when we are talking about interacting with our society, especially in the U.S. since this country is very diverse. Known to be the melting pot, this country has seen many people from almost every single corner of this world.
