“You must never be fearful of what you’re doing when it is right.”-Rosa Parks. This quote relates to 1 Peter 3:14, because it is saying do not be scared of what you're doing if it is right. Well this is exactly what Marlee does in The Lions of Little Rock By Kristin Levine. Therefore Liz, Judy, & Sally all influenced Marlee to speak more often, and to more people. Judy Marlee’s sister has always been there for her, thus making her to speak more. The first day of school for Marlee, and Judy, if they didn’t shut Judy’s school down because of coloured students. Even though Judy can not go to school, she still gets up with Marlee and makes her breakfast. All a while Marlee is eating, Judy states “At least five words together in a row, but yes …show more content…
After Marlee returned home, she kept repeating the quote in her head, until she wrote the quote down on a piece of pink sparkly paper and put it in her mother’s purse. As a result of taking more risks, Marlee and Liz had made secret plans to meet at the zoo Friday night, which they do so of course. As Marlee was out she kept repeating Sunday school, last when Mrs.Withdrop said “Then she read from 1 Peter 3:14 that caught my attention ‘but even if you were to suffer for righteousness sake you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled” (Levine 99) What it means is to not be afraid to do what you think feels/ know what is right, no matter what the consequences could be, or the trouble you could get yourself into. The following Sunday at her Sunday School, Marlee’s mother came to get Marlee, and gets asked to join the “WEC” or known was Women’s Education Council. She politely refused, but Marlee politely asked to join, and as soon as Mrs. Withdrop accepts Marlee gives her the one dollar fee. Even though now that Marlee and Liz can not see each other, they still try to keep the friendship lasting, even though it may not work out. They still are working on the project together, and keep on trying to win the election, that WEC and CROSS are having. After the Election is over, Marlee and Liz meet up at the zoo, which could be the last time they even see each other. The reasoning for that is because Liz’s mom and Liz, have both decided that it would be a lot easier and safer if they do not continue to be friends anymore. Above all of that Marlee has her sister Judy who keeps telling her to be true to herself and others and everything will work out, even though things still maybe horrible right then and there. Like what Marlee does every time when her sister to do something to make Marlee better, she listens. She starts to think of more and more ways to help stop the Secretion, even though there is still a lot of work to be done yet. With this purpose in mind WEC has also help Marlee, by helping her to find the courage like she felt when the lions roar at night. One may even bring the election back up, because without Marlee they would have never thought about doing an election moreless to even hold one. They gave her the
