Summary of the problem:
In the middle of Central Africa where poverty rains and the populous go through with their daily struggles to meet their basic need, in such an atmosphere, Joseph Kony and his LRA which are armed to the teeth is the real face of oppression of freedom dignity and basic human rights.
Joseph Kony , hailing from northern Uganda leads a personality cult and militia which he calls The Lord’s Resistance Arm. He launched the LRA in the late 1980’s modelling it on the Holy Spirit Movement . The group started off as an Acholi militia but as the Acholi support fell away, Kony stared to harass and victimize innocent civilians that refused to join

A 2006 study funded by UNICEF estimated that at least 66,000 children and youth had been abducted by the LRA between 1986 and 2005. According to that study, most of these children were only held for a brief period of time and then released or escaped, but others were forced to become child soldiers and commit unspeakable acts.

Canada does its utmost best in aiding and supporting Central Africa Canada has been represented in the Central African Republic by the Canadian High Commission in Yaoundé, Cameroon since 1962. Canada also has an Honorary Consulate in Bangui, Central African Republic. The Central African Republic has been represented in Canada by its Embassy in Washington, D.C., U.S.A., since 1974.

Canada strongly condemns the use of child soldiers by the LRA and furthermore Canada have committed to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict and we have committed to protect children from armed conflict and its impact, including being recruited and used as child soldiers.
Through the Canadian International Development Agency, Canada has dedicated millions of dollars to offset the effects of war on children through programming provided by dedicated NGOs, multilateral agencies, academic and faith-based
