11. Prompt: In what ways do the conflicts in the book help the characters grow and change? In The Maze Runner, there are many conflicts that help Thomas and the other Gladers grow and change. First of all, the Gladers are living in a big field surrounded by a Maze. They learn how to organize the area and what they need to do to survive. This conflict causes them thinking of ways to escape from the Maze and the Gladers learn to be determined. The Gladers learn not to be scared and to be brave because they know that they have to be bold to escape. An example of this is Thomas. Thomas was scared and confused when he came into the maze, but he learned to be brave and determined. Another conflict in the book is the Grievers, which are monsters created to …show more content…
This story is set in the future after Earth is hit by massive Solar Flares. Almost all of the people on Earth have a disease called the Flare and the Earth is extremely hot. If the setting was different then the story could be completely change. If the story were in present time, there would not be a Maze built for trials, since there is no disease that has completely taken over the Earth. The story would not make sense if it was in the present day. Also, if the experiment was done in a different place, like an ocean or outer space, then the test would have presented different obstacles to the Gladers, than what they had in the Maze. If the setting was is the present, the characters would not be fighting anything and there would be no plot, since no problem is evident. There would also be know plot. If the location of the setting were different, then the characters would face different monsters and would have to think about different circumstances in order to escape. The events in the plot would mostly be the same in a different place although, the events would have different characters and
