Personal narratives are based on true stories and are written by a person that has decided to share a story about his or her life. Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve, author of “The Medicine Bag,” was born a Native American on a reservation and decided to write stories about her Native American culture. The author of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” Maya Angelou, went through many challenges throughout her life. She later became an author and wrote about some of her individual experiences. Mitch Albom, the author of Tuesdays with Morrie, wrote Tuesdays with Morrie after his experience with his college professor. All three of these stories are about a younger person that has been disconnected or embarrassed by an older person, and the stories talk about challenges the characters have to overcome. This conflict is internal. An example of the conflict is when Martin is thinking to himself about how all of his friends will laugh at him when he wears the medicine bag. Another example is when Grandpa talked about how Martin would have to take on the responsibility of the medicine bag and keep the tradition alive. In conclusion, Martin learned that people should be proud of their culture.
