It is hard to speak on the topic of “midlife crisis” when the criterion for what is considered midlife is altogether hazy and ill-defined. According to the text, individual perspective various on when a person considers themselves to be middle-aged. As suggested in the book, many people believe that approaching their 40s qualifies as midlife while others entering their 60s were just as likely to consider themselves to be in their midlife. This proves that people have very different social clocks and are as diverse as they come in terms of temperament, perspective, lifestyle and everything in-between.
Research done using longitudinal studies and the Big Five suggests that the average tendencies, when it comes to temperament, stay fairly consistent
