The African American race also known to historians as Negroes has been dehumanized and inferior for many decades. Sadly to say, the trends from slavery are still present in modern day society. Written in 1933 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, The Miseducation of the Negro demonstrates dramatically how history has faded into the 20th and 21st century. Even though it was written many years ago, the concepts presented within the text still hold a strong truth. Woodson enlightens his audience that Negro mind has been diminished and brainwashed so long overtime to the point that many individuals believe they are truly inferior to opposing races. By building this mindset upon Negroes it allows oppressors to keep the race in the position of civilization right where they are desired. That position keeps them from trying to advance as humans such as in education, workplace and government. Since the Negro was viewed as inferior and imperfect, Educated Negroes had a greater preference to be any other race other than their own. The negative affect of racism began to fade into the economy within many communities around the country. For instance, most Negro entrepreneurs would buy and sell to white consumers because they felt they would prosper more. However, the greater profitable opportunities were actually found in the Negro community and white entrepreneurs took notice to this quickly. As an example, a white professor at near by college quit his job to start a high profiting laundry business in a local Negro neighborhood, in which many of them did not want to start such a business because it was deemed demeaning against the race.
