10) Social sin is found all throughout the movie The Mission. Just because somebody wronged you does not mean that you have the right to seek revenge. Pope Benedict the XVI has spoken out agains many social sins including birth control, stem cell research, drug abuse, pollution, excessive wealth, creating poverty, and the divide between rich and poor. These are modern examples of social sin but they are all the result of the fallacy of Ad hominem, appealing to the people. This way of thinking is causing people to do whatever they see happening around them and believe that it is acceptable. Rodrigo’s wife had sexual relations with Rodrigo’s brother while he was away on the slave trade. This seemed like a good idea at the time but had serious repercussions including the murder of his brother and his wife being left with nobody. The whole slave trade is a social sin, since when is determining innocent people are destined to indentured servitude just because they look different. These natives were treated like animals, they were better than oxen or mules because you could communicate with them and tell them what to do. Beside all of the nonsense around those ideas of slavery many of the generals were excessively wealthy and did not care to share with those people around then who needed supplies or medical attention. Seeking revenge on his brother was clearly wrong and against gods desires for any human being. He is so used to
