Have you ever read “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” or watched the “Andy Griffith Show”? Well, if not then you’re about to find out some similarities and differences. I’m going to compare and contrast the setting, the irony, the mood, the theme, the complications, and the conflict. The four that are most alike are the mood, the theme, the conflict, and the irony. The moods are alike because both of them have a peaceful beginning, a suspenseful middle, and a happier ending. In “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” everyone was friends in the beginning, and then towards the middle they all had their suspicions about others. At the end, there were no just about no more problems and everyone was happier. In the “Andy Griffith Show” it was basically the same. In the beginning everyone was happy, then in the middle a stranger came into town and everybody had their suspicions. And in the end they were all better and everyone was happy. The irony of both of them is that there isn’t anything dark that isn’t there in the light. Meaning that the people were looking for something that wasn’t there. The themes are also alike. The theme in “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” is that everyone had their suspicions and they let it get to their heads. That led to the destruction of their neighborhood. In the “Andy Griffith Show” Andy had suspicion but he didn’t let it get to him and he never gave up. That led him to eventually solving the mysterious problem. Another thing that was different was the conflict in both of them. The conflict in “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” was that people on their fellow neighbors.
