Many United Stateatian’s do not seem to realize that America is made with over forty countries, the majority located in Latin America, with diverse language, landscape, and history. The Motorcycle Diaries is not only a film that is appreciated because of its great dialogue and imagery, but it is also a film that provides the audience with an opportunity to learn about the Latin American culture and historical content. In the beginning of the film, one is able to see the initial setting, Buenos Aires, Argentina. If it was not for the captions naming the city, I would have guessed the movie was taking place in an early European country due to its neocolonialism architecture and fashion. This gives an example of the strong influence Europe had on the urban cities in Argentina. On the grassy countryside of Argentina, one is able to observe that wealth and influences are not lost, even though the landscapes have changed. Although, once they ride further one is able to see that the European influences wear out, and indigenous ones start to appear. The landscapes also begin to change from grasslands to mountains, snow, and deserts. A diverse amount of natural settings and influences are found in Latin America. In the scene where we are able to see a couple walking in in the desert during nightfall, one assumes they were heading to their homes. Nevertheless, once they got to meet the couple, it turns out that they have no home and are only traveling in search of job opportunities. They come to explain that their government has ripped them from their land, and no longer own anything.
