The standard American diets that we continue to eat from generation to generation is the greatest problem with the American health. This diet, which consists of high protein animal product, high fructose corn processed products is the main cause of the downfall of American health and wealth. For example, increased health problems, increased health care costs, and climate change are all caused in part by standard American diet. Due to that reason, all the Americans should shift their diet to plant –based diet, which is far healthier, cheaper and less harmful to the environment than modern diet, and the Government should take an active role in facilitating this shift.

It leads to higher health care costs. In the movie King Corn, Director revealed how the USA relies on a single crop, which is corn. “Woolf and Cheney discovered that mono-cropping is profitable with farming more acre and with government subsidy and other subsidies, but they also learned that it is unhealthy and unsustainable for human and the plant” (Aaron Wolf. Movie). Corn feeds America, it is used as feed for our animals, sweeteners, and ethanol and that’s why we have lower life expectancies than other countries (Aaron Wolf. Movie). This kind of example shows that government is not doing well with public food, health, and wealth. In the movie Plant Pure Nation, Dr. McDonough says that “Health care cost 2.8 Trillion dollars every year in America, which is each person $8912 (Dr. John McDonough qt. in Campbell Movie)”. In addition author Micheal Pollan mentioned in Article The Botany of Desire that, “In the USA most of the corn we consume is invisible, having been heavily processed or passed through animals before it reaches us” (Pollan Article). This shows how bad food choices can effect the American economy too, to include the money the government is spending on public health. It can reduce if they should provide nutrition and health based education to the low-income communities. If we start eating healthy, nutrition-based foods, all these expenses will be lower and we will be healthier. The government should not only focus on cropping four grains such as corn, rice, wheat, and soybean. They should also focus on support grow more plants which are healthy for public.
