When an employee is disciplined, it should be done in accordance to the guidelines previously established by the employer or the employer and the union. The main idea of discipline is to provide an opportunity to follow the rules and regulations of the company. One example, is the non-punitive discipline process. The non-punitive discipline process has many benefits to traditional discipline and if used correctly can gain an employee's acceptance of the company rules and regulations.
Discipline is necessary in all work environments. Discipline is essential when an employee violates rules or regulations of the company. It is important that the discipline is conducted in a fair and consistent manner. One example of a fair and consistent discipline policy is one that has a means of progressive penalties and a process for appeals. The non-punitive discipline process is one of these examples of a discipline process that follows those guide lines.
Customary, discipline in the work place can have a couple potential issues. Often, an employee who receives traditional discipline will experience bitterness towards the company or supervisor. Furthermore, it my only gain a short-term conformity on the part of the employee and not long term cooperation.

First time an employee violates a rule they are given an oral reminder by the supervisor. The supervisor tells the employee the reason for the rule that has been violated and the specific changes the employee must make to be compliant with the rule. The supervisor will also express confidence in that employee, and that they will make the appropriate changes necessary and that no further action will be required as they will meet the expectation. The supervisor will also advise the employee that no record of this action will be placed in their employment
