History with the Noongar started when they used to gather in Bunbury, the Leschenault Estuary, where all the rivers met before flowing into the ocean. The Noongar used to hunt kangaroos, possums, catch fish and gather Balga which they used for medical purposes.

The Noongar people's culture and tradition were disrupted when the European people arrived. They saw the Aboriginals as uneducated, uncivilised with no religion. They used the Noongar men to deliver mail from Bunbury to Pinjarra and beyond and if they refused or didn’t do it they were severely punished.

There came a period when the Europeans would just take or ‘stole’ the children from the Aboriginals or Noongar in this area, which had a much lighter skin, to re-educate, cultivate
