The one child policy is a large social issue, in China, at the moment. It is holding back China’s society and setting them up for failure in the future. As shown above, I believe that the one child policy is a bad thing for China. The one child policy is a bad thing because it causes gender imbalance, only children are lonely, and the population was already in the process of decreasing.
The one child policy is causing a gender imbalance that is affecting the country. There are 13 million more boys than there are girls in China today. Boys have always been valued more than girls for many reasons; they are free labor, they continue the family name, and they stay home to help parents in their old age. This is causing an increasing issue, so bad that females in important positions have started going door to door to show that girls aren’t useless. In the future this will cause violence because men won’t be able to find wives and will abduct young girls from their families. This could also cause riots and rebellions because people want things like abductions to stop. Because of the policy many only children are all alone.
The one child policy is unfair because most only children are incredibly lonely. Even though the children go to school and have friends they have no one at home but their parents.”“ Xiao Xuan said that she had no one to turn to when she needed someone to talk to and she used to harm herself because of this and I quote, “I wish I had someone to share the attention with.””(Doc. F) Another thing is that because of this loneliness children fill that void with food or things and become spoiled and fat. Obesity is another growing issue in China. China’s fertility rate was already
