In the novel, The Other Wes Moore, by Wes Moore, Wes is approached by a young man who wants to buy drugs. Wes thinks the man might be a cop, so he says “no.” However, Wes later reconsiders and approaches the man later. Clearly, Wes should not sell drugs to that man. He is not from around here and Wes said he looked sketchy at first but he couldn't let a deal like that go by. Already having a kid and a mother he loves, he should be thinking about the choices he’s making because you never know if you might have them by tomorrow. Everyone has his or her set of values, which consists of many different kinds of values. Ultimately, when he makes the decision to sell the drugs he is sentencing himself to prison.
In spite of the fact that Wes is in a very hard situation right now and he needs help, but he is not doing anything to try and fix things because, right now, he doesn't really care about anything. One of his values is his daughter “Without a thought about what he was taking on, he announced that he wanted to build her a house” (143) This is great because Wes is finally realizing he has to take care of his own kids, wanted to build his daughter a house to protect her. It proves he values his daughter because he actually wants to help her out, something beneficial that could help her in the future. Another thing he values is money & his relationship with his mother. Wes values his mother because she’s the one that takes care of Wes’s kids and Tony’s “The kids were now basically living with Wes’s mom.”(143) In my opinion I think that would of been the best choice because the mother of Wes’s kids was a drug addict and well Wes was just not thinking straight.
