Taking the opportunities given to you is incredibly important to succeed in, and to make something out of life. One of the big differences between the two Wes Moores is their ability to take a chance, and thrive while doing so. Both Wes Moores were given a second chance to change bad habits; however, only one of them truly took that opportunity. In The Other Wes Moore, it can be seen that both Wes Moores were given another attempt at making their lives right. The author Wes Moore was sent to Military school where he learned to accept the system there. The other Wes Moore placed himself in the Job Corps where he was given a free education in an occupation of choice. After graduating from the Job Corps, Wes fell back into the drug system he had known since being a child. The author, Wes Moore, claims that this is one of the reasons for their different lives now. Moore uses imagery and sentence structure to give the reader a better idea of the other Wes Moore’s finalizing fate and to show how he thought it was the only way. The author, Wes Moore, argues that not taking the second chance with the Job Corps, and instead going back to drugs, is one reason for the differences in the two destinies.
