As great as all the grade 11 performances were, I decide to use Curtis's performance on talking to his coach about why he should play on the hockey team. I believe that he accounted for all of the needs the audience by having a choreographed blocking, speaking loudly and articulating along with his character being very realistic and direct. His face was always visible up until the end where he put a mask on as he never had his back to the audience. Even when he was picking up the water bottles, he made certain that he was facing us and although his voice was a tad muffled under his equipment, his speech was very articulate and very fluent. With all of this combined, he portrayed his character and the plot very realistically and well. His monologue was clearly true to him -- he is a hockey player and he loves the sport -- so when his character was striving for his objective, it was clear that Curtis was connected to him and the plot. I also find that Curtis as a person is pretty goofy so when his character tripped over chairs and his own feet in the beginning and the end, he made a tribute to his personality as well. Curtis also portrayed his character well by never hitting the point of clown. He conveyed his excitement by putting his equipment whilst talking about the math of score range.
