When Campbell says, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.”, he means that a hero can be someone who is willing to risk his life for other people’s sake. Johnny has affected many people throughout the novel, such as Ponyboy and Dally. As for Ponyboy, Johnny taught him that living life to the fullest is something very important. He also taught him that saving others is good, yet you have to understand that living with the consequences is another thing that comes with it. As for Dally, Johnny was the one who kept him stabilized. Johnny was the only thing that Dally loved. He allowed Dally to stay true to himself. A true hero doesn't necessarily have to be a superhero who saves the world just like it's pictured in the movies.
