It was a really hot day out in the fields that day, the blazing sun shining upon my friends and families. The routines I would have every single day, I was getting tired of it. I saw my friend Ekko working close by, I tried to get a conversation started but the overseers stopped us, we got whipped but Ekko and I just chuckled while in pain. I was suppose to collect at least 200 pounds of cotton but I was no where near that. I saw Lucian almost done with with his work, his basket was filled almost completing his daily task. I remember one time he got caught giving his cottons to the other slave woman, the overseer had reported the owner, I didn’t see him until the next two days. He was beaten and whipped brutally, he couldn’t walk for almost two weeks. When I finally got to see him that night he gave me a big smile and he told me he was all right. As it was getting noon, I started to get really hungry but our break was only twenty minutes away. A lot of my friends died due to hunger but it didn’t really phase me. In our slave culture although we may not be blood related we all count everyone as family that is why most slaves hate getting separated from the family. The only people I loved and respected was Ekko and Lucian. Break time was probably the most favorite thing in part of my daily routine, although we get small amounts of food I enjoyed due to the fact I got to hang out with Ekko. We would talk about what we would do if we were not slaves but free blacks. After break time would be over we have to go back and work, we would go inside our shelter really late.
