Fear is a primitive human response to physical and emotional danger that threatens your safety. Although, fear is the main concept in all horror films, horror paradox is about loving the fear, particularly in gory, thriller and suspense films that gives an adrenaline rush and afterwards sense of invincibility. It is like during a ride on a rollercoaster wherein fear is the only emotion that sits on the mind, but after it is over, it is exhilarating and a relief. Hence, there are some theories that explains this paradoxical fear.

Hollywood has a way of overdramatizing their films by including all kind of special effects and graphics, and creative terms to appeal to the attention of their audience. Especially, in horror films that are unsettling to keep audience frightened, panicky, and to invoke hidden fears to rise and creep in their subconscious minds in dark corners or dark rooms. Every revolutionary horror films has developed a torture system that draws the viewers as it focuses on the suffering of the prey instead of the chase. These violent actions seen and processed by the brain can developed as an instinct to the watcher because it is implemented in their minds that in any given dangerous and frightening happenings they could do better in surviving than the ones in the film. Consequently, watchers of these film always have a saying of “If I were.” For instance, “This is why they die. If I were there I would have called the Police.”

Relevance.

The essence of horror films is its interrelation to one’s negative emotions such as anger and violence because of the dramatic violence that is use to release the pent up aggression. This is called Sublimation. Instead of directing unacceptable actions to someone who has done something wrong, it is redirected to something more acceptable and harmless. By having the chance to purge their vicious thoughts it prevents them to pile it up with their other everyday stressful
