At the beginning of the play, scrooge is perceived as a parsimonious character. I agree with this statement because at the start of the play, when scrooge was talking to his nephew, he says that Christmas does not benefit you finically because on top of all the bills, presents and Christmas dinner, you lose a lot of money by the end of it. Scrooge does not see the happiness that that Christmas brings, he is focused on the financial side of Christmas and does not realise the happiness Christmas brings because he has never experienced it for himself.
