The Last Supper that Jesus celebrated with his disciples the night before his death symbolized the Passover meal that Israelites were (some are still) celebrating every year in spring. During this meal, Jesus fulfilled the elements that were part of the Passover meal. First, the lamb that was sacrificed at Passover symbolizes their deliverance from the slavery in Egypt through the death of the firstborn of every Egyptians when the angel of death passed through the land of Egypt and whoever did not have blood on their doorpost of their house, he was killed. At the Last supper, Jesus represents the lamb that was slain and through his blood we are saved from the slavery of sin.
