The Past Is Prologue summarized the book’s entirety. When I read chapter 9, I wanted to continue reading. Throughout the book, I found it to be interesting how many people, whether white or black came together to fight for equality. Although society still lacks equality in many areas, there is progression. There is only progression when someone truly takes a stance and does not give up. All of the people that were mentioned in the book went outside the norm, and continued on to higher education. Society, especially minorities are still lacking higher education although it is the norm today to continue on to higher education. It is important that people get informed as well as guidance. The book as well as history proved that anything is possible. At times people do realize that anything is wrong because it is the norm, and feel comfortable where they are at until someone notices something is wrong.
For example, research amongst people’s IQ and intelligence will forever be a battle in society, especially amongst people’s gender, race, and ethnicity. Since Garrett was a man in power, he was able to have Mrs. Clark receive a grant. People in power will always lead the until someone or a group of people will rebel. This is a great example of a white man in power. I am sure he did not mean to be racist since it was the norm, but as we know this is a type of racism. Mrs. Clark used her skin color at an advantage. Without her, society would have been able to see an African women succeed. It truly is an inspiration seeing people awarded when people least expect
