After listening to the entire debate, I have decided to support the Patriots due to the compelling & valid arguments that they have presented. The Patriots usually referred to the fact that the British king and parliament have constantly mistreated the colonists overseas, whether it would be through unrepresented taxation, restrictive legislation, or lack of sympathy for the colonial grievances, making a separation from Britain seem advantageous. First of all, Charnelly discussed the general benefits of independence in terms of politics by saying that an independent nation of America would potentially become a republic, where the people would be heavily involved in the government, thus making the people satisfied with their country. Although multiple colonists question whether or not the aspiring nation would succeed, they have witnessed our political power during the time of salutary neglect, in which Britain very loosely supervised the colonies and did not strictly enforce legislation, and how the various colonial meetings that took place did good for the people, as so happened in New England, & forged an American identity. …show more content…
Moreover, as Ashley has mentioned in her speech, the unfair taxation that Parliament repeatedly passed after the Seven Years War economically empowered the British, while emasculating the colonies through the mother country’s strict policy of mercantilism. The Stamp Act, for example, was intended to pay for defense near the Appalachian mountains, making many of us upset due the fact that we they are raising money for them, rather than keeping the balance between the Britain & colonies
