What would you do if you found, what you thought, was the greatest pearl in the world, but the table turns and you find yourself in grave danger. John Steinbeck wrote a book, “The pearl”. In the book the character, Kino, finds a pearl, the greatest pearl in the world. Throughout the story Kino and his family go through tough times but nothing compared to what Kino sees in the pearl. Money can bring out the greediness in others.
Even though, the pearl is told to be a symbol of dreams and opportunity. This pearl brings a different kind of story for Kino and Juana. “Then to the lovely gray surface of the pearl came the little things Kino wanted: a harpoon to take place of one lost a year ago…. His lips moved hesitantly over this-”a rifle”, he said, “perhaps a rifle”(Steinbeck 25). My quote explains the way the pearl made Kino feel and the things he wanted from it.
“Kino looked at his neighbors fiercely. “My son will go to school”, he said, and the neighbors will be hushed”(Steinbeck 25). Kino is explaining to his neighbors what he expects out of the pearl. He wants Coyotito to go to school to learn an education.
