In the novel The Pearl the three main characters Kino, Juana, and their baby Coyotito's lives look like they change for the better but do they really? As you go on reading in the book you might differ. The pearl at the beginning looks like the best thing that ever happened to Kino and his family but later the pearls luck comes back to hit them right in the face especially Coyotito, literally. However getting the pearl has brought detail to the novel such as the need for wealth, power, objects in life, and pleasure. At the beginning it also shows needing full attitudes, poor conditions, and lastly hope.

When his trustful wife had the idea of taking the pearl and throwing it in the ocean because she sensed evil in it, he said," I will win this this battle." This act showed his need for power and domination. Also, his wife Juana saw how uncontrollable her husband got after he knew he was going to be one of the richest families in his small town. Lastly, he showed greed by saying, "Our son will go to school". Also he talked about getting little Coyotito a sailor suite to match his mom and dads brand new clothes including his white clothes and black felt hat and Juana's new skirt. Along with Coyotitos outfit, his dad Kino saw in the pearl little Coyotito reading a book and in school. Going back to the need for power, multiple times in this book when the pearl brought great trouble to Kino's family he always tries to over come it and not give up because he wants his family to live a good life and not in the shadows of the happy and wealthy people. Lastly, when he found the huge oyster at the bottom of the ocean all isolated and alone it was the second most exiting moment of his life.
