After reading The People’s Temple as Christian History by Kristan Klippenstein and doing further research I believe the reason why Kristan thinks the People’s Temple should be understood within the history of Christianity because the way the People’s Temple can be interrupted using a Christian perspective. If you have read the bible or are a Christian yourself looking at the People’s Temple before the end you can see how it ties into Christianity in its own way without following strict beliefs from the bible. Her point of view is seeing what Jim Jones and his followers were before allegations about the group came out in the media. And before the dynamic of the group changed after leaving the U.S. Before the tragedy that took the lives of 900 temple followers and their leader. The church demonstrated many beliefs that are the same in Christianity. During an era of racism and was the People’s Temple emphasize on the acceptance of minority groups because they believed everyone is equal. Sexual assault is a serious matter with the law and in the eyes of God. Many of his followers that decided to leave the church began talking about their experiences with the church and Jim Jones himself. They describe how Jim would approach to and use sex and that many of their bad experiences were either directly or indirectly connected to sex. Many of them hesitated for years to speak on the subject because they were afraid of the consequences they would face from Jim Jones and his followers. With sex being a huge sin in Christianity and with Jim Jones knowing how big of a sin sex is he has continued to do this to his followers without many of his other followers
