The films are made with the intent to appeal to the largest audience they can so the studios can make money off of them. This leads to Hollywood movies following a predictable formula and succumbing to popular trends while hardly exploring new options. Evidence of this can be seen in all the movies Hollywood has released since 2000. From 1940 to 2000 only ten films based on popular comic book superheroes were released by Hollywood. In contrast, since 2000 Hollywood has quadrupled its amount of superhero films, releasing 40 with many more to come. Why did this happen? Because superhero films are more popular and make more money than they ever have so Hollywood makes them. Another reason for Hollywood’s popularity is their reliance on unoriginal. This is to say that Hollywood, for the most part, make movies based on other people’s work. These can range from movies based on novels, short stories, and the aforementioned comic book; however, the thing that Hollywood likes to borrow from the most is themselves. Many of the movies Hollywood releases are sequels, prequels, remakes, or reboots. They do this because they know that people are more likely to see something they are familiar with than something new.
