Prologue Late at night, in the quiet village of Lamdoria, silent, wispy fog settled around the stumpy cottages. One of the cottages, though, was not so stumpy, but was stretching itself toward the night sky and the moon above. Suddenly, a light, a flickering candle, showed itself in a second-floor window. A woman crept over to the crib in the corner, a slumbering baby cradled in her arms. The baby shifted, and let out a soft wail. “Shh... It’s okay, it’s okay” the woman lowered the baby into the cradle, and crept silently out of the room. With a sudden bang, and a yell, the front door exploded. “You know what to do!” a commanding voice shouted over the ruckus. “You can’t have her!” the man yelled at the shades. A light shot out from behind the man, seemingly from the woman’s strange, twisted stick. The light, shining and deadly, seared straight through the shades, as they were only shadows. The light rebounded of the wall and sailed toward the stairs. The stairs crumbled, and, excited by the thought that they were within arm’s length of their goal, the shades rushed to the stairs, and glided up.
