Animal agriculture seems like a necessary industry, especially by those whose livelihoods depend on it. However, one has to think, can we survive without animal agriculture? My biggest concern for the future of animal agriculture is whether or not it can financially sustain itself and be able to continue production without being shut down with the long list of ethical concerns. Farmers need to be able to obtain all of the resources needed to help animals grow so that they can continue to feed us. Our world currently populates around 7 billion people. If animal agriculture can’t sustain itself, how will we feed our population? Over the years it seems that public opinion is affecting the ethics of animal agriculture and constantly changing what is ok and what isn’t. What animals are fed, how they are hauled, butchered, their living situations and even the proper way to treat diseases is constantly being altered by those who think they know an animals best interest, even if they have never set foot on a farm. I’m sure there are some large farms that cram as many animals as possible into their living quarters but every farmer I have ever met cares for their animals as if they are their own children. Ultimately, what is best for the animal is best for the farmer. Keeping animals, clean, fed, watered, cool and sheltered helps them produce the best products that they can.
