Birth control is the use of any practices, methods, or devices to prevent pregnancy from occurring in a sexually active woman (medicinenet.com). In today’s society more and more teenagers are getting pregnant because they are not able to get to birth control in a way that suit them. Some teenagers are afraid to ask their parents to take them to a physician to get them some form birth control or they predict the unaccepted reaction from their parents about it. Birth control can become a huge perspective in a teen’s life. The most reasonable form of contraceptive would be the birth control pill that can be given over the counter. The birth rate in the United States for all women is 12.4 per 1,000 population versus for teenage girls which is 26.5 per 1,000 according to cdc.gov. Between the ages of fifteen and nineteen the percentage of giving live birth is much higher than the ages above nineteen. Teens that are sexually active will not have to worry about the consequences of taking care a child and abortion rates will also go down, making the advocates against abortions very happy. Birth control is 99.9 percent effective and every one out of one hundred women get pregnant because of it. The chances of a teen having sex while on birth control is very remote. The world’s population is growing vastly and space is becoming limited which, causes the decimation of forests to build new communities. Birth control has certain types of side effects. The birth control pill can cause severe side effect to a teen. Going over the counter and not knowing the teens work up history can be a risk. The birth control pill can lead to stroke, gallstones, increase blood pressure, blood clots, and even depression according to (Nancy Bell). The most noticeable side effect to birth control that is the most common is weight gain. The weight gain can be hard to lose to try and shed off. A friend in high school would complain about the weight that she has put on and that her cramps became very unbearable to sustain. This made her miss days of school and be behind on her school work. Although, this is true the side effects are very slim for women this problem can be easily solved. Pharmacist can take the necessary qualification to be able to do a work up history on the under aged teens to see if they is eligible for the pill. Birth control can also, clear acne, help lighten menstruation and soothe cramps. The negatives to birth control can be heavy but the positives to the birth control can help make a teens life stay
