There are about 218 million children involved in child labor from ages 5-17. Child labor is the use of children in industry or business, especially when illegal or considered inhumane. More should be done about child labor because children don’t get a good education, they face bad health issues at a young age, and get physically and mentally abused.

Children working at a young age get little education they need or no education at all. The text states, “child laborers are often deprived of a decent education and robbed of their childhood in order to help alleviate their families from the depths of poverty.” (DoLE). Children involved in child labor most often have many health deficiencies at such a young age. The author wrote, “In the worst forms of child labor, children are exposed to health hazards and to physical danger, their development is threatened, and they are subjected to exploitation.” (The). Many children are exposed to health dangers that can affect their growth and development. These health hazards can affect children for the rest of their life. Many of the children don’t have much legal protection to help them get out of forced labor so they are stuck working dangerous jobs and can be severely hurt. The text quotes, “They were at risk for diseases related to their occupations. With minimal legal protection and indifferent employers, children were severely injured and killed on the job.” (Children). Health hazards can be caused by being in an enclosed area with machines running for a long period of time. The text says, “The laboring children suffered subtler health effects as well.
