One major misconception I’ve had about psychology is the treatment of animals. It is often stated that animal testing is often used to advanced our understanding of psychological issues such as mental health disorders. However, the word “testing” is quite frightening sometimes. For example, cosmetic animal testing is very well known-- cosmetic animal testing involves the suffering and death of many animals. Furthermore, For a very long time I used to compare cosmetic animal testing to animal psychological testing because I believed all animal testing are inhumane. But after reading chapter 1 I was able to understand that there are ethical guidelines that must be followed when psychologist conduct research on animals such as treating them humanely
