Dunning also explains how despite all the research done on fluoridation of water, some people still believe it may be bad for us. Most of them understand that fluoridation of water means, water suppliers add fluoride to our drinking water, but don’t understand that sometimes excess fluoride that is caused naturally, is removed from the water. He mentions that all around the world, you will find fluoride in groundwater, because it is a natural component. When we fluoridate water we are only adjusting the fluoride content to the healthiest level, not just adding more to what it already had. Dunning goes on to say that even after explaining this process, some still argue that fluoride is a dangerous chemical poison, which causes cancer or other illnesses. They also argue that not enough scientific research has been done, that some research says it is dangerous, or that …show more content…
John Yiamouyiannis, who was the main originator and claimed that fluoridation caused cancer. He even raised his family on a fluoride-free diet, but ironically he died from cancer in 2000, which he refuse to treat, due to his naturopathic philosophy, which means he did not believe in modern medicine. This was unfortunate, because the cancer he had has a 95 percent, 5 year survival rate if treated properly. The fact that he did not consume fluoridated water and yet got cancer, should be enough proof that fluoride isn’t responsible for cancer, and anyone can get cancer for different other reason. Those who are against fluoridation are not bad people, they only care for their family, which is understandable, many are also misinformed, or maybe they just don’t trust the government, which means they are most likely to believe in other conspiracy theories. Although the government is secretive at times and it may be hard to believe everything they say, they are not lying about water fluoridation and have a lot of research to back it
