GMO foods are a very controversial topic, with a large amount of misinformation. Many people believe GMOs are unsafe to eat, but the food itself is just as healthy as any natural food. It is all very under researched, with the media easily blurring the truth. However, with enough thorough research, the truth can be uncovered. Biotech (GMO) crops, as unnatural as they are, should be accepted and continued, and here’s why. GMO’s, or Genetically Modified Organisms, are organisms that have had genes placed into them artificially, usually from a different species. One of the most controversial examples of GMOs are genetically modified crops. There are many crops that have been altered by this process, such as corn, which is a very popular GMO product. Other genetically modified products include soybeans, cotton, canola, and squash,. …show more content…
Most traits added to corn are multiple insect resistances, drought protection, or herbicide tolerance. One example of an insect resistance is the bacterium (a prokaryotic cell with circular DNA rather than linear. It is commonly used in biotechnology.) Bacillus subtilis. It provides protection from corn rootworms and other caterpillar-like bugs. An example of drought protection is the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. This bacterium allows plants to function better under drought. These are all essential to the growth of the yield of corn, (Yield is the amount of an agricultural
