In the American constitution, the second amendment specifies that “a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (US Constitution). How is it that guns are the root of crime and death when in significant situations, guns have aided in saving lives and protecting the people? Guns are used to “serve and protect” our community as well as in self-defense against those who are not sane and harm the innocence in society. As outlined in the second amendment, guns are also meant to protect citizens from the tyranny of a controlling government. Gun control is blatantly unconstitutional and has caused crime to escalate in the United States. The instilment of gun control laws will take away the inalienable rights of the citizens of this country. What is a key event that media is always portraying in the evening news? The percentage that claimed it was purchased for protection was 67%. The percentage that claimed the purchase was made for target shooting was 66%. The percentage that claimed the purchase was made for hunting was 41%. These are the facts. Facts cannot be argued. Let us go back to the fact Jefferson outlined citizens have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When one uses a firearm for protection, they are protecting their life, their family which is their happiness, and their liberty to have life and happiness. When one uses a firearm for target shooting, the individual is exercising the inalienable right of liberty to pursue happiness in shooting targets.
