Remember waking up early to go to school? You would roll over and say, “five more minutes…” Then all day at school you would try to beat the clock to your classes and try not to doze off during your lessons. And even though you acquired a decent amount of sleep, you would still be groggy and dazed since school started so remarkably early. But, what if we could solve this problem? Due to three reasons, I adamantly believe that school days should start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. Did you know that later start times can mean less missed school? In fact, absences dropped 15% in Bonneville County, Idaho after they changed their times, according to a 2014 Children’s National Medical Center report. Many school officials and teachers are always complaining about students being tardy to class. In fact, most schools have a rule that if you are tardy more than five times, you will receive lunch detention. Usually, students are late to their first period class because they overslept. With an extra hour, students would be able to come to school on time. But, why haven’t schools even considered this proposition? …show more content…
When a student does not obtain enough sleep, they are often dazed and confused. Students would not be able to concentrate on their school work and be unsuccessful throughout the school year. If students are going to school sleep deprived, then this could lead to many problems. According to most sleep experts, students need at least nine hours of sleep.
