College students tend to side with the idea of regulating college tuition. Students demand colleges to act in the public’s best interest. Even Republicans, a party that disagrees with red tape policies, are beginning to draft ideas on how to lower the continuously growing student debt (The Week). Students and debited parents are tired of the Laissez-faire policies. They argue that the “hands off” policies lead to the Great Depression and Great Recession and now students worry that it will also lead to the “Great Debt” (Time). Last year the federal government's 69 billion dollars went into scholarship programs and Pell Grants and the cost of tuition still increased (Weissmann). This leads students to think that colleges are too profit driven.
