It took eight years, four months, and fifteen days with many ups and downs and thousands of deaths, but without the American Revolution, the United States of America would not be the same as it is today. Without the American Revolution, the original colonies could still be apart of Great Britain. The American Revolution was truly revolutionary because it established the colonies as an independent nation, therefore providing political participation, religious freedom, and hope. Overall, it took over eight years of fighting with Great Britain for the original colonies to gain their independence. Britain continuously harassed the colonies who broke away from the mainland, by raising unnecessary taxes and ultimately place troops on the ground in Massachusetts. Great Britain had the advantage during the whole war. They had more troops, more money, more goods, and had won several battles in a row. But, Francis Marion was able to “swamp fox” the British army, meaning the American troops hid in the swampy waters of the south to attack the British. Shortly after that, on October 19th of 1781, the American’s get Cornwallis to surrender his army of 8,000 men. Many men on the American side gave up and went home after loosing several battles, but some stayed and other joined. Without their hope and hard work, the United State of America would never be the same. The American Revolution was truly revolutionary because it established the colonies as an independent nation, therefore providing political participation, religious freedom, and hope. Without becoming an independent nation, the United States would not be able to have the political participation and religious freedom because Great Britain would be in control and treating them unjustly.
