Should we really miss out on exploring a new planet? Mars is out in space waiting to be discovered , all scientists have to do is find a way up there. The colonization of Mars is a phenomenal idea because Mars has the potential of having water, food, and oxygen, also not to mention sand that can be used for building sturdy structures. Many people think that it is possible to go to Mars, so why not.

One big problem about the dry, cold planet is that there is no water on the surface. Also water is too heavy to transport to Mars. Recently, scientists have discovered that there is frozen, radiated ice underneath the planet’s surface. This ice is also located in the polar caps, which is where the Mars One project is planning on landing. The atmosphere on Mars is too thin for growing crops. Until water is flowing on Mars 80% of food will be sent from Earth. Recently, scientists came up with the solution to make the atmosphere thicker so that the people can grow crops. The plan is to melt the ice on the planet’s surface, forming vapor which will make a thicker atmosphere to protect the colony from the radiation. After doing so, the colony can grow crops on Mars.

In addition to all the problems that the cold, dry planet has, there is oxygen. As everyone knows there is no oxygen on mars. How can astronauts colonize mars if they can barely breath? Therefore scientists made a machine called MOXIE. MOXIE is a machine that takes in carbon dioxide and turns it into oxygen . After the atmosphere gets thicker the colony won’t need the machine. To survive on Mars and colonize the planet the colony needs structures. The problem is that to build you need building materials .Sending building materials is impossible because the materials weigh too much . Also Mars does not have building materials yet.Scientists have planned to dig out sand, then microwave the sand into bricks. If this plan succeeds, the colony will have very sturdy buildings that will withstand the harsh dust
